Bookpage Wall. DIY Home Decor.

Book Page Wall.
(1) Place one of your favorite and most inspiring books outside for months. Let Nature naturally weather your book. Leave it open and don't be afraid for bugs, dirt, water, and other elements to alter the pages. I chose "Spiritual Partnership" by one of my favorite authors, Gary Zukav, because I thought this book would bring positive spiritual energy to our master bedroom.
(2) Purchase items when your book is ready. Loctite Spray Adhesive, Mod Podge in an aerosol can, and Scotch Tape. This is a CHEAP PROJECT, YALL!! I found these sconces at Canton and I think they add a nice vintage touch.

Begin by spraying the adhesive to the wall, and one-by-one, hang each page. I realized the hard way that using Scotch tape to secure the pages to one another is a good idea. We woke up daily with a page of insight on our laps, which is kind of fun, but not realistic for daily life!
I broke the project up into a few different days because it does get tedious.
Feel free to tear the pages when you get to the ends of the wall; I started in the middle and worked my way out...When the entire wall is covered, spray Mod Podge sealant over it. Wear gloves!!!  Place pressure on the edges of each page, and give each page enough time to set. Again, tedious, but completely worth it!  This is my final page wall!
(I didn't cover the ENTIRE wall...if you know where your furniture will be, you can cheat a little bit)
This is a fun, cheap way to spruce up any room. It's WAY cheaper than wallpaper, and each person can make their own statement. You could also use various tissue papers, children book pages (would be ADORABLE for a nursery!), and/or magazine clippings.

How To Make a Birdcage Beautiful.

I'd like to first thank Angelica, my deceased parakeet, for being such a great pet!
My first pet (that was all my own), you were so much smarter and loving than the average parakeet. Your memory will live on! Thanks for the 9 years of memories!!!

Start with a birdcage-this one was from Canton, and housed my parakeet for 9 years. HOSE THIS DOWN AND SANITIZE!

These are free paint samples. Pick out favorite colors to add a little "pop."
Decoupage and Hot Glue.
Moss/Filler. These were leftover; I got these bags from Michael's for my butterfly costume at Eeyore's Birthday Party.

BOOKS! You can actually fill it with whatever you want, of course, but I was inspired by old books.

Hot-glue a piece of paper to the base of the birdcage. I also hot-glued the grass around the edge. There isn't a right or wrong way to do this, but I liked mine rather loose; I thought it appeared more natural and less forced.

I laced some filler through the bars, and didn't even need to use an adhesive. If edges pop up, you can use decoupage.

Try layering. I laced the light green moss, then put some tree-bark on top (with hot glue).
I burned the edges of the paint samples to make them look less rigid.

Putting the books in required more arms than I have, so I wasn't able to take pictures. The tray in my cage slides in and out, so I slid it open about halfway, then with my right arm, put a book in, and through the open door with my left arm, posed them how I liked. Once I was done, I closed the tray. I topped the cage with a miniature bird's nest and robin-blue egg, because it matches my apartment! You could put anything on the cage to make it uniquely yours.

Finished project!

I put it on top of the record player, which is currently out of commission because it needs a new needle. I'd rather the record player work, but until then, I like the way it looks at least!!!!

Grateful to be Stuck In My Loft on this ICY DAY!

My Loft in Keller, TX

"If you want a golden rule that will fit everything, this is it: Have nothing in your houses that you do not know to be useful or believe to be beautiful." — William Morris

If you read my previous post, it was about my nostalgia and sentiment about my prior home, my cottage in Norman. I knew when I moved, I would never have a duplicate cottage. So I went for something completely different! My loft is on the 2nd floor of a great, modern building. The first floor is filled with adorable retail shops, my favorite being Funky Petals, a great flower shop, and Art Party, a fantastic local-art gallery! I have spent a great deal of time decorating and nesting in my loft, and am very happy with how it has turned out.

Since I'm cooped up in here (and not minding one bit! no such thing as cabin fever for this girl!!!), I thought I'd take some pics around my house with my fun new camera, and share them on my Blog.

Umbrella Stand from Art Party (Denton artist). Houses my adorable BUBBLE UMBRELLA that I received from my parents for Christmas! (My mom is the most considerate gift-giver. I mentioned after spotting one in Washington DC, in MARCH, that I liked those umbrellas, and when December 25th rolled around, what do you know....)

Up close!

I absolutely LOVE this photo!!! This is my FAVORITE item in my home!

My window, with drapes from Hobby Lobby. Painting on the wall is from Art Party. Butterfly calendar from Anthropologie.

The painting from Art Party, up close. I like the gemstones in the top left corner. Beautiful, and only $25!!!

Maybe I'm a home-body. Okay, I totally am a home-body. But I feel like if you get cabin fever, you need to fung-shui attack your home and make it a place you LOVE to be! I couldn't be happier being stuck all day in my apartment. It's filled with art and decor that inspires me and comforts me.
