Science and Religion Panel VIDEO

On March 3rd, I went to the First United Methodist Church in Fort Worth to listen, and at two points, contribute, in a discussion about science and religion. If you have the time, it is worth listening, but the video is almost 2 hours long, so I thought I'd sum up a couple things that might interest you if this BLOG interests you:
  • My favorite part of the video is at 49:05, a photo from the Hubble Space Telescope. This photo was taken where there was thought to be no stars, no galaxies. Just pure darkness. They left the shutter open, and this was the image they found. It has over 1500 galaxies and looks back over 12 billion years. Fascinating!
  • At 82:44 a man stated that he didn't see any young people in the audience, and he had curiosity if the younger generation had thoughts or opinions on this discussion. I found that to be my segue (I was actually quite nervous!) to talk about my views regarding the issue (I come in at 83:01).
  • At 107:34 and the comments made just prior, dilemmas are discussed regarding technological advances and if we should do things just because we can (scientifically), and my response (regarding stem cell research) is found at 108:25.

This website shows five different panel discussion videos. I haven't watched them all yet, but plan on doing so!
